Day 5 : Monkeyfest

Slept in today and pretty sure I have a cold and have a scratchy throat, boo.  Roused the rest of the fam and off to breakfast around 9 after a brief stop to talk with the monkeys (there is like 15 of them here this morning). Typical breakfast despite Stacie spitting up her water everywhere after choking on her vitamin.  We talked out our fitness plans for 2025 and what the difference between protein, fats, and carbs are.  Mom is always having fun when she can be teaching.

Back to the room after getting coffee and ensuring a sales pitch from one of the resort dudes offering free stuff “if we will just come to a breakfast”.  Watched the monkeys for a bit and then relaxed in the room, then Stacie appeared with her “coupons” that she wanted to figure out how to use.

I’m off to the gym and Addie is heads down in the iPad, and Stacie is working on something.  Post workout we packed up for the beach and I grabbed us a spot, secured our gear, and went to the lunch spot for a drink, nachos, and a burger.  Addie commandeered a boogie board and got to work while I made a sand castle.  Mom got some epic video of her hanging ten, and some of the waves were pretty intense “it’s not like 30a dad” referring to the Florida beaches.

We went up to the pool to rinse off before the sunset kayak trip, but when we got down there they told us we had to have registered early this morning for it, so on to plan b.  Back to the room for a shower and then I sat on the patio for a bit watching a big storm roll in.  While I was sitting there my monkey buddy showed up and we shared a banana, and a moment when our eyes locked and we are forever bonded.

It’s off to the sushi place and we got in right as the clouds opened up and it started pouring.  Service is much better tonight and we didn’t have to wait a bit.  Addie loaded up on her rolls and even ate some of ours.  A couple kids sat next to us, both from Austin and one of them even goes to Wisconsin, and Stacie chatted them up but good.

After dinner it’s back to the room and Stacie ventured out to get me some medicine so I’d stop coughing at her.  We watched the end of Dead Poets Society and then Gone in 60 seconds, which I guess we are adding to our holiday movie playlist.  I’m full blown sick now and I can feel the wheels of fun on this trip grinding to a halt if Stacie doesn’t drive it forward from here, so wish us luck.
